San Joaquin Delta College will hold a memorial for our beloved colleague Germán Andrés Águilar on Wednesday, July 2, 4 p.m. at Atherton Auditorium.

Germán passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 7th in Florence, Italy doing what he loved, performing with the Cal State Long Beach Conservatory Choir. He was on a three week tour performing in many of the iconic performance venues throughout Europe.

Germán was indeed one of the finest choral directors and teachers Delta College has had the privilege to work with. He touched the lives of students, faculty, staff and the community in a most profound way. You could never forget his joyful smile, his artistry and love for his work. As Germán directed his choral performances, you could see he was dancing with the angelic hymns of heaven.

Not only were his choral ensemble performances at Delta College breathtakingly beautiful, he also performed with the Stockton Chorale and founded the Valley Youth Chamber Choir. His musical influence in our community was ever-present. Germán was to be confirmed as the new artistic director of the Stockton Chorale at the time of his passing.

Delta College, the Arts and Communication Division, and Stockton have lost a truly wonderful person, exceptional teacher and talent. Our prayers are with Germán’s family and friends.

                                 There are some who bring a light so great to the world
