I am interested in making prints that exist in both two- and three-dimensional form. I am compelled by the challenge of conceiving drawings for a surface, translating them into print, and folding them into sculptural form. The viewer faces the challenge of understanding the dialog of object and imagery.
Eating and other rituals surrounding food are the central themes in this work. These sculptural forms refer back to simple objects that present food. The printed imagery transitions over folds and allow the ideas to be portioned and pared as the viewer moves around the sculpture.
We eat our meals in various states of awareness of the act’s significance. I find myself looking with curiosity at the space, time, and manner in which we eat, prepare, and acquire our meals. I return to them with the attempt to create a curious space where questions form. |
