Randy's current work is inspired from all things mid-century.  From the strange funny characters taken from arcade games, board games, political propaganda, modern design, architecture and urban development, and placing and manipulating these characters in a contrasting, more vulnerable or sensitive environment.

Home Sweet Home

acrylic on canvas
30" x 60"
2012

$3,300

I was working on "Home Sweet Home" in my studio while listening to NPR regarding the 2012 summer Olympics in London.  They were reporting that the Government (Homeland Security) was posting notes on peoples’ doors in and around strategic areas in London. The note basically was informing the occupants that the government was installing land to air missiles on the tops of their flats to reinforce peace and security.  This news changed the direction of the painting I was working on. I was painting a mid-century American-style house when I imagined this vision of dropping missiles on the tops of one’s home!!  I then painted over the roofline and added missiles to the architecture. Clearly the direction of the painting changed.  I worked off the emotions and the insanity of this vision through out this painting. I think it speaks for its self in many forms.

Tree of Life / Tree of Peace

acrylic on canvas
18" x 48"

$2,500

In the “Tree of Life / Tree of Peace” I tried to just simplify the goal and outcome of global conflict and the results of war. The painting has silhouettes of men, the decision makers and the power and greed of war. The eyes represent the innocent. The woman on the phone is the propaganda or the advertisement of war. The bombs heading in both directions are the final result of war. It’s a sad painting for me.
