The relationship between the three-dimensional and the two-dimensional has always interested me. I try to create a unity between a physical object and flat, graphic surface designs. I prefer surface decoration with pure, geometric shapes and bold, black outlines. My sculptural forms are similarly unadorned and minimal as I try to create raw, almost weathered looking pieces. My pieces are experiments combining basic geometric shapes familiar to everyone in ways that create unexpected interest. Also included are stainless steel elements that provide unusual textures and shapes. I combine unglazed slabs of clay and a matte color palate with a firing atmosphere that allows for surprising surface effects.
