Maria Paz is a self taught Chilean artist based in Oakland, CA. Paz works primarily in ceramics, creating illustrative and wobbly forms that are deeply personal but still reflective upon the collective traumas of Latin America. Paz’s work is meant to liberate her; it has a formal naivety to it that uses the bright palette of Latin America as a rebellion against the sterile mechanics of industrialized capital. The organic forms and naive paintings discuss her encounters with dictatorship, class stratification, capitalism, and Otherness. She is currently showing in London, Britain at Someth1ng Gallery.
