There is an industrial history intrinsically linked with ceramics. Alongside creating ritual art, ceramics had a utilitarian function. In today's society, other materials such as metal, plastics, and papers have in large part, replaced the use of ceramics, so too have machines replaced the potter. In this piece, I rework the modern industrial artifact in the medium of ceramics, not as a replacement of these newer materials but in homage to the history that ceramics has served. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern Illinois University where I double majored in both Art and Anthropology. Currently I work for Shimpo Ceramics in Glendale Heights, IL, and also teach adult ceramics classes and workshops at the Brickton Art Center in Park Ridge, IL. I continue to maintain my studio practice, creating both figurative works as well as trompe l'oeil ceramic pieces where I sculpt ordinary objects out of clay.
