The figure is the inspiration for my ceramic sculptures because of its ability to transcend spoken language by using symbols, motifs and body language to communicate my ideas. The work’s concepts begin as my personal experiences with family and friends. The ideas evolve into physical representations of contemporary archetypes, such as a preacher or blue-collar worker. The archetypes become the signifier of a common narrative that is familiar and relatable. The viewer should see his/her self in the sculpture and have the work communicate our shared experiences of life. My figurative sculpture is a way to describe the ebbs and flows of the human condition.
