Nature is my mental tranquility. I may dwell beneath my unknown, but it keeps me safe.
This clay is comprised of things taken from the earth and will someday be taken back, a fate whose process is uncertain but promised with the passing of time. Each marking on this sculpture is a moment in time, and I am its witness. Time is precious, yet we do not value it so. Why is time not made of gold?
I use gold to celebrate the fractures of my sculpture. They are healed wounds that become a part of its history; scars that are celebrated.
The bat is stuck in the nocturne, returning to its safe haven to be in the dark. This can become permanent when it is easier to stay sedentary than to change and witness uncertainty. But for now, I remain in the peaceful sanctuary.
