Fire Holder is one of my recent works. It is hand built stoneware clay carved and bisque fired to cone 04. The surface is decorated with slips and underglazes, light coat of clear satin glaze is applied and fired to cone 05.

The Fire Holder is a figure in a meditative state. The "S" shape of the figure shows the movement of the energy from the base, curving in the middle and moving up through the hands towards the sky. The spiral carved spheres are like curly hairs. The spirals show the way the energy flows towards the egg shaped head. The look of the Fire Holder directs our attention to the fingers which also represent the fire itself. The fingers combined with fire represent creativity. The Fire Holder is the one who brings creativity, knowledge and light into the world.
