My love for working with clay is rooted in an appreciation of being able to express myself through sculptural work as well as being able to create functional, utilitarian objects. My functional work is inspired by my own needs that arise throughout everyday life and is expressed through simple forms and satisfying textures that I strive to make as enjoyable to use and feel as they are to look at.

I was inspired to make the small series of storage jars that this piece belongs to after I was given a collection of large bags of bulk food from a cooperative household that I used to belong to. My unexpected demand for more food storage containers reminded me of the extensive history of clay being utilized to create utilitarian objects to serve the needs of life in addition to evoking considerations of the evolving functions of ceramics in modern context.
