The prevalence of the everyday object and the importance of the day-to-day narrative in the folk art of the American South awards me the freedom and projection to include the imagery and stories of the culture of my youth that consumes my surfaces. Meaning to be read like the section of a wall, extracted and frozen in time. They are not intended to be read chronologically; but as transcendental moments, gently nudging the mind of the viewer to recall and perhaps re-experience seminal segments of their own past, then to ramble wherever they may be led. Creation is intuitive, seeking balance of positive and negative and noise versus rest allowing surfaces to evolve freely. Surfaces are left unglazed allowing the raw image to take precedence with paper-thin slivers of porcelain often pulling off the surface speaking of the strength and fragility of clay.
