Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I would often hear talk about revitalization of the impoverished parts of San Francisco, Oakland, (insert your city here)… It was not until I got older that I understood this term as code for the planed diaspora of low income communities to more remote locations. Now, as I live in New Orleans I see the same strategies progressing, where revitalization is code for ‘turn everything into Air B & B and the poor can move across the river’. This statement may be blunt but so are the Weapons of Vast Construction.
