Turning the ordinary into the celebrated is the central theme in my ceramic sculpture. My work is about taking images from the natural world, that are meaningful to me and giving them new perspective. In doing so, I create a fantastical ordering of nature by my human hands. I use simple images like that of a shell or flower and change their size, color and context as I recreate them out of clay. As I do this I am aware that the images represent personal stories or places I’ve been. I allow the images to become something celebrated, or even sacred, instead of forgotten or unnoticed |
