I construct sculptural abstract plant mutations from red earthenware clay and create tension through the pairing of industrial and organic forms. These biomorphic forms bulge, bend, sprout and swell and are designed to entice the viewer’s curiosity. With this work, I am exploring a potential future caused by the unintended effects of genetic engineering on the environment.

In genetic engineering, when a favorable trait is added, it subsequently “turns off” the DNA it replaces. Since there is a lack of long-term scientific research in this area, I have created a world where the unknown and the unfavorable are allowed to exist. I encourage the viewer to consider that which may seem appealing at first, may turn out to be ultimately harmful.
