(Knuckle Ball detail, inside)
My sculptures play off the contradictory notions of beauty and the grotesque while evoking creative and destructive forces. There are orifices, cracks, and suggestions of oozing fluids in the matt and glossy surface, achieved through multiple firings of white earthenware to cone 01. The steel frame allows the work to be suspended and flow through to the base. The circles and/or halos serve as a reference to the circles of hell in Dante’s Inferno. |
