Winter Sierras
hand-made stoneware tiles, underglazes, clear glaze, cone 04 fired
36" x 30" x 1" (wall mounted, 2D tile piece)
2009
$500
Handmade ceramic tiles are bisque fired and then painted with layers of undercoat glazes. Then I use a sgraffito technique to scratch the top layers to reveal different colors underneath. Three coats of clear glaze are applied to produce a crackle effect and glaze fired to 04. The tiles are assembled again and glued onto a painted sheet of plywood.
