I make hand-built ceramic sculptures with a visual density of pattern, imagery, and detail. Rather than edit down to the minimal, I embrace the complexity of our visual surroundings. I gather visual information from the San Francisco and Oakland landscapes that I have called home over the last 14 years. Patternscape: City of Hills is inspired by the San Francisco hills, and the intersections between the natural and constructed landscape. I think of my sculptures as three-dimensional collages, where I am layering patterns and imagery to capture the essence of a place.
