Young Man III began as a blind contour drawing from life and captures the psychological humanity of this person. The drawing is transferred to a clay slab which is expanded and pushed up from behind. By doing so I make what was once an illusion (a drawing) real because it now exists in three dimensions. Now line, shape & form combine to make that connection as poignant as I possibly can between myself, my model and the viewer.
