Alleles of a wood-firing, all but one are from the same clay body, fired at the same time in the same kiln. Loaded in predetermined locations, scattered throughout the kiln so that none was in sight of any other member of the eight, they are a testament to the nature of wood-firing — which is both predictable and capricious at the same time — and to the variety of individual responses to a similar experience.
