The relationship between the three-dimensional and the two-dimensional has always interested me. I try to create a unity between a physical object and flat, graphic surface designs. I prefer surface decoration with pure, geometric shapes and bold, black outlines. My sculptural forms are similarly unadorned and minimal as I try to create raw, almost weathered looking pieces. My pieces are experiments combining basic geometric shapes familiar to everyone in ways that create unexpected interest. I combine unglazed slabs of clay and a matte color palate with a firing atmosphere that allows for surprising surface effects.
