My work has been described as elegant, yet also earthy and powerful. My sculptures are informed by my own subconscious and my interest in the worlds of the mythic, the numinous, and the archetypal. I use these inspirations and a spontaneous interaction with a variety of materials to create both figurative and abstract pieces. My emotional state while I’m working is also strongly reflected in the sculptures. The piece exhibited here, Dream from a Spontaneous Utterance, came directly from a dream of mine. The dream occurred after an evening with friends when I felt I had spoken my mind a little too freely. That night I dreamt that I was very slowly and carefully pulling fish hooks from my mouth. It doesn’t take much imagination to arrive at the symbolism embodied in this nightmare. |
