(Stockton, CA) Delta Center for the Arts LH Horton Jr Gallery presents the 7th annual 2D | 3D Works National Exhibition and Awards Competition, PRINT, February 23 – March 17, 2017.
The theme for this year’s 2D | 3D Works Exhibition presents artists working in traditional and experimental printmaking processes in two and three-dimensional form. Traditional works, such as etchings, monotypes, and woodcuts are exhibited along with works that use new technologies, such as solar plates, as well as screen-printed ceramic sculpture and mixed media applications. This survey of artists offers an exceptional display of craftsmanship, diversity of style, and individual use of materials. There are 15 artists from 10 States exhibiting 34 works of art. Included in the show is the work of Stockton-based artist, Monika Meler, Associate Professor of Art and Graphic Design, University of the Pacific. It’s always very rewarding for Delta College faculty and staff, as well as for the community, when our local artists are selected for one of our national shows.
The artworks and awards were selected by this year’s exhibition juror, Mayumi Hamanaka, and completed through a blind selection process, without names associated with the artwork. Mayumi Hamanaka, originally from Japan, is a visual artist, curator and educator. She is the Communications and Gallery Director at Kala Art Institute, Berkeley, California. She has been working at Kala and sharing her talents with Kala for a decade now. She received her M.F.A from California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and her B.F.A from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the recipient of the De Young Museum Artist Fellowship, Murphy Fellowship Award, Taipei Artist Village Fellowship, and others. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally including Taipei Artist Village in Taiwan, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Swarm Gallery, San Francisco Art Commission Gallery, Headlands Center for the Arts, and Asian American Art Center in NYC. She has taught at California College of the Arts, Diablo Valley College, and Berkeley City College.
