Delta College Presents
Engineering &
Technology Day
Friday, February 3
Local
HS students compete in Computer Aided Design (CAD) competitions at Delta's Engineering and Technology Day
(Stockton, CA) San Joaquin Delta College’s Engineering Program will host the 30th Annual Engineering and Technology Day on Friday, February 3. The day's activities take place from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Holt Center and Tillie Lewis Theatre.
Local high school students will have the opportunity to put their engineering
skills to the test by participating in a multitude of contests including: Auto
CAD/Inventor Drafting; Architectural/Civil Drafting; Robotics, and “Delta Cube”
competitions.
The Robotics competition will challenge students to design,
build and program an autonomous mobile robot to navigate a fixed course. Accuracy is a must, with the better of
two runs counting as the final score. The robots must also be able to avoid obstacles placed on the path!
Again, this year’s design competition is
the “Delta Cube” challenge, which proved to be a very popular event! The objective is to design and construct a device
which will provide a path for a ping-pong ball to touch all six sides inside a
20” x 20” x 20” cube. There is no limitation on materials for cube construction,
or interior devices to achieve the goal. Those who successfully achieve the six
side objective will compete in a speed contest to determine the
winner.
Students will also have the opportunity to tour Delta College,
and then receive advice on engineering career pathways from industry professionals at the Career
Orientation/Awards Ceremony in Tillie Lewis Theater. Students get their engineering questions answered from experts, and are motivated to move forward with their academic plans.
Delta engineering
instructor Danell Hepworth says engineering technology offers employment in
numerous fields. “If you’re interested in a creative and challenging career in
high tech fields like Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Electrical Engineering,
Mechanical or Civil Engineering, engineering technology is the choice for you.
We believe Engineering and Technology Day serves as an inspiration for our
students. Delta College provides the pathway!”
