Delta College Awards $206k in Scholarships Delta College 2017 Scholarship Awards Ceremony

(Stockton, CA) San Joaquin Delta College awarded over $206,000 in scholarships to 172 students at its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony, Wednesday, August 16, at Atherton Auditorium. A reception for the recipients followed the 4 p.m. ceremony.

This year, the college awarded over 350 scholarships, with many students receiving multiple awards. Students are awarded scholarship money under various criteria, including grade point average (GPA), and demonstrated financial need. Awards range from $100 to $5,000.

Delta College's Scholarship Awards Ceremony has been an annual event since 1980, when the first program awarded $43,000. Over the past 37 years, the program has awarded a remarkable $6,222,219 in scholarships! The event recognizes achievements of San Joaquin Delta College students, their academic dreams, and the generosity of local individuals and organizations whose financial support honors and promotes higher education.

“I’m so honored to be part of such an excellent program,” says Tina Lent, Director of Financial Aid, Scholarships and Veterans Services. “A great deal of work goes into awarding these scholarships. Our reward is witnessing how much Delta College Scholarships help our students’ achieve their academic and career goals.”

Organizing the Scholarship Awards Ceremony is no easy task – it takes many months. The application process involves countless hours of volunteer time. Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Kathy Hart emphasizes, “We deeply appreciate the commitment of our staff and community partners. Delta’s success in building its scholarship fund depends on the labors of its employees and the generosity of our community – even during tough economic times.  We couldn't do it without them!"
