Delta College Students Awarded
JobRedi Foundation CTE Grants

JobRedi Grant Recipients and Mentors, 2016
Delta College JobRedi Grant recipients & mentors gathered for a photo op after their spring 2016 check presentation.

(Stockton, CA) Fourteen Delta College students received JobRedi Foundation Grants of $2,500 for the spring 2016 semester at the spring check presentation and workshop held on campus. This is their second installment; Delta students received their first grant during the fall of 2015 and may receive up to two additional grants, resulting in a maximum commitment of $10,000 per student.

The JobRedi Foundation (formerly known as the Cortopassi Family Foundation Vocational Certificate Program) was initiated by Dino & Joan Cortopassi in 2014 via partnership with the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. Selection criteria are based on applicants overcoming personal adversity, demonstrating financial need, and enrolling in a two-year Vocational Certificate program at a qualifying community college.

The JobRedi Foundation recognized that high school graduates, who earn Career Technical Education (CTE) certificates, have a much higher earning potential than students entering minimum wage jobs. The statewide median income for CTE certificate holders after five years was $61,000, vs. $24,000 for those with only a high school diploma.

Dino Cortopassi, chairman emeritus of the Cortopassi Family Foundation said “These innovative scholarships enable recipients to overcome financial barriers to vocational certification. We are pleased to provide financial support to young men and women focused on CTE career opportunities.” Cortopassi emphasizes that each awardee has demonstrated the grit to overcome personal challenges. “These grants enable students to gain employable skills in their chosen vocation.”

Qualifying applicants must have graduated high school, currently reside in, or have graduated high school in San Joaquin, Stanislaus counties, and enroll as a full-time student in a qualified two-year CTE program at qualifying community college. Additionally, applicants must have successfully overcome personal adversity, demonstrated financial need and be under the age of 35.

Delta College JobRedi Foundation Grant Recipients for 2015-16 include:
Delia Marie Castro; Eduardo Ceja; Brittney Chaves; Amalia Garcia; Jared Gunn; David Hernandez; Julissa Ruby Hernandez; Jesus Montero; Adriana Ozornio; Chloe Rill; Carolina Rocha; Arsalan Shafqat; Juan Solorio-Lopez, and Eusebio Montero Sotelo.
