 ### Digital Images Available Upon Request ### Solo actress Anu Yadav performs a tale of nine year-old Meena who wishes her mother had the medicine she cannot afford. By night, Hindu God Lord Krishna begs her to battle the ‘Worry Machine’ to save the universe from destruction. Alternating between imagination and reality, Meena must face her deepest fears, and keep dreaming of a world where everyone has enough. As Meena gathers the courage to face the Worry Machine, she is also gathering courage to fight society’s messages that tell her she and her family don’t matter, there isn’t enough for them, that they are all alone. To Anu, those messages are part of the deceptive power of the Worry Machine all of us face about our individual self-worth, and our human rights to the basic needs of life. There is enough housing that remains empty, medicine and food that gets thrown away. Meena's Dream creates a fantastical world through storytelling and an original musical score of South Indian classical traditions, jazz, and indie folk. Anu Yadav is a critically acclaimed actress, writer and theater-based educator dedicated to telling the stories of people pushed to the margins of public discourse. Her devised theater work sparks a powerful forum for people to reflect and listen to each other’s stories across social and economic divides.
Meena’s Dream is sponsored through an Arts Endowment Grant from the Stockton Arts Commission. Tillie Lewis Theatre Delta Center for the Arts Box Office ### |
