Superintendent/President Kathy Hart cuts the ribbon for Delta's new Soccer Complex

(Stockton, CA) Delta College dedicated its new Measure L Bond funded Soccer Complex with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, October 11. The ceremony followed double-header games with Cosumnes River & West Hills College. Delta management, staff, trustees, and local dignitaries looked on as Superintendent/President Kathy Hart cut the ceremonial ribbon with President of the Board Claudia Moreno, soccer coaches Adrienne Sorenson, Josh Bradley and both Mustangs teams.

The Mustangs men’s and women’s teams started playing on the new field during the last week of September. Delta’s Enrique Aguilar had the honor of scoring the first-ever goal at the new facility on September 27, during a 1-1 tie with Santa Rosa.

“Our players love the new field,” said Athletic Director Daryl Arroyo. “The Soccer Complex includes permanent goals, team benches with shade structures, PA system, scoreboard, Mustangs branded windscreen, and bleacher seating for 300 with a video platform.”

State-of-the-art artificial “Field Turf” is a key feature of the new field. Not only is the surface conservation friendly - requiring very little water for maintenance, players will appreciate the sand and cork infill mixture that stays relatively cool during the punishing valley heat. The Complex also includes four portable goals with an artificial turf practice/warmup area next to the playing field.

Delta College women’s soccer coach Adrienne Sorenson says the new complex is one of the absolute best soccer facilities in the valley. “It’s a symbol of pride for the young women and men who play here and aspire to move on to the next level. It’s been amazing seeing Delta’s program grow over the last six years, and more importantly, 94% of our sophomores transfer to four-year universities.”

Men’s soccer coach Josh Bradley believes the new stadium has the opportunity to bring the Delta College community and Stockton together in countless positive ways. “Stockton is a strong soccer community. Just hosting special soccer events for high schools at this superb facility will be extremely motivating for young players. Delta College soccer can be a strong voice representing not just the soccer community, but the people of Stockton.”

Delta College Superintendent/President Kathy Hart praises the hard work of Delta’s management, staff, players and Board of Trustees for making the Soccer Complex a reality.  “The young men and women who play here deserve nothing less than the best…and this stadium is just that.”
