Carlos Huerta takes Oath of Office as Delta's newest trustee.

Carlos Huerta is sworn in by San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge, José L. Alva

(Stockton, CA) With friends and family present, new San Joaquin Delta College trustee Carlos Huerta took the oath of office from San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge, José L. Alva, at Tuesday’s December 13 board meeting. Huerta, 34, represents Area 2, Central Stockton. Judge Alva also renewed the oaths of trustees C. Jennet Stebbins, Area 1, South Stockton, Steve Castellanos, Area 5, Northern District, and Teresa Brown, Area 6, Tracy.

Carlos Huerta is a program manager for the San Joaquin County Office of Education’s Head Start Program. A lifelong Stockton resident and 2004 graduate of Delta’s Early Childhood Education Program, Huerta says he wants to work for programs that prepare students with the necessary skills to enter the 21st Century workforce. “Business development in our communities hinges on preparing students in transfer and vocational programs that fit employment opportunities.” Huerta also believes building life skills is essential. “We must instill honesty, hard work, and being on time - skills businesses demand.” Huerta finishes, “As a Delta grad from a low income family, I personally know how vital Delta College is to our economic and social welfare.”

In other Delta College Board actions: Janet Rivera, representing Area 3, North Stockton, will become President of the Board for 2016-17; Richard Vasquez, Area 4, Lodi-Galt, will become Vice President of the Board for 2016-17, and Steve Castellanos, Area 5, Northern District, will become Clerk of the Board for 2016-17.

The San Joaquin Delta Community College District is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven voting members. Trustees are elected from trustee areas during general elections throughout the district. The board also consists of a student representative appointed by Delta’s student government. Rafael Medina is the current student representative.
