Dr. Daryl Arroyo, selected to National Wrestling Hall of Fame
Dr. Daryl Arroyo

(Stockton, CA) Milford, Connecticut native and Delta College Athletic Director, Dr. Daryl Arroyo, will receive a “Lifetime Achievement” induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame on April 16. The award recognizes the accomplishments of coaches, officials or contributors with at least 20 years of service. The Hall of Fame induction dinner will take place in Prospect, Connecticut.

Daryl Arroyo’s dedication to the sport exemplifies a lifelong passion. “I’m honored,” said Arroyo.
"I started my journey in wrestling as a high school freshman at Jonathan Law High School in Connecticut. It’s exciting to be recognized by my peers for contributions to the sport. I’m looking forward to the trip back east to thank wrestlers, colleagues, friends and family.”

Arroyo will be permanently recognized in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Stillwater, Oklahoma) with an embossed name plaque, personal plaque and jacket to commemorate the occasion.

Dr. Arroyo has a stellar resume as a high school/collegiate wrestler and coach. Arroyo was the 1980 Connecticut High School Wrestling State Champion at Jonathan Law High School. At Springfield College (Massachusetts) Arroyo was captain of the 1984 wrestling team and three-time national championship qualifier. Daryl placed sixth in the 118-pound weight class at the 1984 NCAA Division II Championships and earned All-America honors.

As coach of the Springfield College wrestling team for 21 years, Arroyo accumulated a 303-167-6 record, coached 70 national qualifiers, 27 NCAA All-Americans, 67 Scholar All-Americans, and 45 conference champions. Daryl was inducted in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Hall of Fame, and is a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Hall of Fame member. He was named NEWA Coach of the Year five times, as well as being named the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 1991.

Dr. Arroyo completed his Ph.D. in Sport Psychology from the University of Connecticut in 1996. Needless to say, his contributions to athletics are far from over. As Delta’s athletic director since 2013, he’s proud of the path the college is taking. “In recent years, Delta student-athletes have had great success in the classroom and in the California Community College Athletic Association. Mustang Athletics continues to increase our academic support so more student-athletes have the opportunity to graduate and continue their education at 4-year colleges.” Arroyo finishes, “Student success is our goal.”
