(Stockton, CA)
Delta Mustangs football sophomores Leandre Fisher, Winston Green, and Benjamin Jones, signed National Letters of Intent to play for William Penn University in Oskaloosa Iowa. The ceremony took place Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 16) at the Mustangs’ student-athlete study hall “The Zone.”
Jones, a linebacker, and Green, a defensive back, played together at Burbank High School in Sacramento. Fisher, also a linebacker, played at Cesar Chavez High in Stockton. Their defensive skills helped the Mustangs win the last five games of the 2015 season, culminating in a 24-17 Gridiron Classic Bowl victory over American River College on November 21.
Head Coach Gary Barlow was effusive in his praise for all three. “Benji Jones is an explosive linebacker who will make a big impact at the next level. Winston Green has a knack for the football. His fourth quarter heroics (interceptions and pass break-ups) helped secure key victories this season. Leandre Fisher is a high energy, high motor player who will contribute both on defense and on special teams.” Barlow finishes, “Delta College is very proud of these young student-athletes. They all brought unique skills to Mustangs Football.”
