This year, almost 300 awards will be made to 171 students, with many receiving multiple scholarships. Students are awarded scholarship money under various criteria, including grade point average (GPA) and demonstrated financial need. Awards range from $100 to $2,000.
Delta’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony has been an annual event since 1980, when the first program awarded $43,000 in scholarships. Over the past 34 years, Delta’s scholarship program has awarded an amazing $5,603,000 in scholarships. This event recognizes the achievements of San Joaquin Delta College students and the generosity of many local individuals and organizations whose financial support makes the Scholarship Awards Ceremony possible.
Denise Donn, Director of Financial Aid, Scholarships & Veterans Services, says Delta’s success in building its scholarship fund depends on the labors of its employees and the generosity of community members, even during tough economic times. “The Scholarship Awards Ceremony work takes many months. The application process is very involved and takes countless hours of volunteer time. We deeply appreciate the commitment of our staff and community partners...we couldn't do it without them.”
Denise Donn finishes, “The scholarship ceremony is one that makes everyone ‘feel
great.’ I always look forward to watching the joy and gratitude unfold as we
help make our 2014-15 scholarship recipients’ dreams come true!”
