(Stockton)
Get a jump start on holiday shopping with unbelievable deals on new and nearly new merchandise priced as low as $1!

Twice a year, customers can find amazing deals on apparel, shoes, accessories, home décor, and much more at SJDC Fashion Program's Nearly New Sales. The holiday sale is set for Friday, Nov. 8th, 2013 in Danner Hall, 10am - 4pm.

This incredibly popular sale is one of the most anticipated events that the Fashion Program holds each year. In fact, it’s so popular that lines of people wait to get in hours before the gates open!

The Nearly New Sale is a favorite among those who scout for prestigious brands of goods. Past sales have included True Religion jeans and Nine West and Franco Sarto shoes for under $10, a rare mink handbag for $150 and a Louis Vuitton Handbag for $200. The array of brands include Guess, Levi’s, Banana Republic, Juicy Couture, Ann Taylor, Talbott’s, CABI, Gap, Nine West, BCBG and so many more.

People as far away as Sacramento and Roseville come to take advantage of the amazingly great deals! The Stockton Record and Alan Sanchez of Good Day Sacramento, as well as other local and regional media have covered this event, increasing its popularity more so with every event.

Since the inventory is donated, it varies a great deal from year to year, but savvy shoppers who prowl thrift stores or discount shops say the sale is a bargain-hunter’s paradise and the deals on new merchandise are spectacular with the low prices that are unmatched anywhere else. JoAnn Kirby, customer and Stockton Record newspaper reporter loved the sale. “I purchased Christmas decorations donated by a Miracle Mile boutique, an awesome pair of winter pants, spy novels for a reader on my holiday list and a couple of summer tops. My total bill was only $32! “ Michelle Isbell loves the sale and comes to each one. “You can find great deals on new stuff – I found a shirt that was regularly priced at $60 and I paid only $5,” she said.

In its past years, students of the Fashion Program organized this incredibly successful sale, selling new and nearly new apparel, shoes, authentic accessories, home décor, new and vintage jewelry, designer handbags and during the holiday sale gorgeous ornaments and holiday décor starting at just $1. All merchandise is donated from local and regional retailers and manufacturers and personal friends of the program, including local retailers such as Flair Boutique, Gary Long Jewelers, Theodora, Stage Two,

Bella’s Bridal, and Zuesters from Lincoln Center of Stockton; C.R. Porter and With Garden Flair from Stockton’s Miracle Mile; 2 Plus 2 Prêt, City Girl, and Fashion Safari from School Street in Lodi; High-end retailers such as Gump’s of San Francisco and Pottery World of Granite Bay who have donated huge amounts merchandise; and manufacturers like The Sak, Weston Wear, TSD, Flax Designs, and Cut Loose who have also donated huge amounts of merchandise.

This year, the sale will feature over 500 brand new dresses donated from the Rose Dress Company in the Bay Area. The dress inventory includes formal dresses, cocktail dresses, prom dresses, and quinceañera dresses, as well as first communion dresses, in many different colors and sizes, and all priced from $3 to $25!!!

“We are so fortunate to have the support we do from our own fashion industry, both locally and nationally. We also appreciate the incredibly supportive group of industry leaders who have donated to this event and we could not have done it without them,” said Leslie Asfour, the Director of the Fashion & Interior Design Programs and the visionary of the events and the program.

The Nearly New Sale is a major fundraiser for the Fashion Program and assists students with the educational costs as well as costs for the fashion industry tours. Given the amount of cuts that college programs like the Fashion Program are facing, students work overtime to bring positive events to the college and its community. It provides students with hands-on experiences and gives them an excellent background in the retail aspects of the fashion business through sourcing out inventory from local/national retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers. Pricing that inventory and then merchandising and displaying it on the “sales floor.” Emphasis is also placed on providing excellent customer service skills, as well as effective marketing techniques. Months prior to the sale are devoted to developing marketing materials and distributing information about the event throughout the community.

This is not a sale to be missed! Mark your calendar for Friday, November 8th! With holiday season around the corner, this is a great way to get everyone a little something and a few extra things for yourselves without squeezing your wallets!
