Dr. Kathy Hart Receives 2013 ATHENA Award!

The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce presented Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Kathy Hart with Stockton's 2013 ATHENA Award on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Stockton Golf and
Country Club. 

Selected by a group of their peers and past ATHENA Award winners, the award recognizes women leaders who demonstrate "personal and professional excellence, in addition to a lasting commitment to community service." Since the ATHENA Awards inception in 1982, over 6,000 recipients have been honored worldwide. “I am so honored and delighted to be in the company of so many outstanding women,” said Dr. Hart. “These women have given their time, talent and treasure to make their communities better.”

A passionate supporter of community service, Dr. Hart has a distinguished academic career as an instructor, administrator and is active in numerous local committees and organizations, including: Stockton Arts Commission; Stockton Symphony Board and San Joaquin Business Council.

First hired at Delta College in 1994 as Assistant Division Chair for Communication Skills, Dr. Hart was promoted in 2000 to Division Chair of Communication Skills. In 2002, she was again promoted to Dean of Planning, Research and Regional Education. In 2008, she was hired as Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Instruction. In Feb. 2012, Dr. Hart became Delta’s Acting Superintendent/President. Dr. Hart was selected as Delta’s permanent Superintendent/President in September 2012.

Dr. Hart believes communities benefit most when people are willing to serve others without compensation. "The ATHENA Awards are a glowing example of such dedication." Dr. Hart emphasizes, "We must set the example to be role models and mentors for others in our communities.”

The ATHENA Awards will be presented Nov. 21, 11:30am, at the Stockton Golf & Country Club. Congratulations Dr. Kathy Hart!
