Delta Awards $183,000 in Scholarships!

San Joaquin Delta College awarded over $183,000 in scholarships at its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Thursday, August 15, at 3 p.m. in Atherton Auditorium. A reception to honor the recipients followed the ceremony.

This year, 315 awards were made to 179 students, with many receiving multiple scholarships. Students are awarded scholarship money under various criteria, including grade point average (GPA) and demonstrated financial need. Awards range from $100 to $2,000.

Delta’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony has been an annual event since 1980, when the first program awarded $43,000 in scholarships. This event recognizes the achievements of San Joaquin Delta College students and the generosity of many local individuals and organizations whose financial support makes the Scholarship Awards Ceremony possible. During the past 33 years, Delta’s scholarship program has awarded an amazing $5,424,000 in scholarships.

Denise Donn, Director of Financial Aid & Veteran Services, says Delta’s success in building its scholarship fund depends on the labors of its employees and generosity of community members, even during tough economic times. “The pre-ceremony work takes many months. The application process is very involved and takes many hours of volunteer time. We deeply appreciate the commitment of our staff and community partners...we couldn't do it without them.”

Denise Donn adds, “The scholarship ceremony is one that makes everyone ‘feel great.’ I always look forward to watching the joy and gratitude unfold as we help make our 2013-14 scholarship recipients’ dreams come true!”
