San Joaquin is celebrating 50 years of independence!

Let’s face it…just about everybody in the county knows somebody who has attended San Joaquin Delta College. Delta College would like to celebrate its “50th Anniversary” by honoring students and staff from 1960-65 who have passed through Delta’s halls of education. The college would like to hear from you! Do you have a photo from years past; a recollection of your Delta experience, or an update on your life and achievements?

Send your contact information, updates, digital photos and special Delta College reminiscences to: 50thAnniversary@deltacollege.edu, or, send hard copy material to: Delta College Public Information, Locke 119, 5151 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95207.

1963 was a pivotal year in Delta College history. With the new community college district now in control of its own destiny, Delta’s first board of trustees took their oath of office on February 8th, 1963; Stockton College was renamed San Joaquin Delta College. On July 1, 1963 the “new” college formally took control of the Stockton College campus from Stockton Unified. Through the diligence of many community leaders, California’s newest community college was open for business during the fall semester of 1963. Former Stockton College president Dr. Burke W. Bradley was Delta’s first superintendent/president.

Through the years, thousands have attended San Joaquin Delta College, learning new job skills, earning associates degrees, and earning credits for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Many of these successful students brought their education and job skills back to our valley for the benefit of all. None of these successes would have been possible without Delta’s dedicated faculty, staff and students who add so much to our communities. From its earliest years at the old Stockton College campus south of the University of the Pacific, to its current sites on Pacific Avenue and South Campus at Mountain House, there are numerous stories to be told!

“Honoring students and staff from that era is an ideal way to help celebrate Delta’s 50th Anniversary,” says Superintendent/President Dr. Kathy Hart. “Their commitment to Delta College and our communities through the years is undeniable.” Dr. Hart emphasizes that Delta College is an integral part of the fabric of Stockton and the San Joaquin Delta Community College District. “As one of the premiere community colleges in California, we’re proud of the outstanding contributions Delta College faculty, staff, and students have made to our district, state and country over the past 50 years.”

Join San Joaquin Delta College’s “50th Anniversary Celebration” as it honors faculty, staff, students, and Delta’s outstanding history as one of California’s finest community colleges.
