(Stockton)
Delta’s 100 Yrs (Anniversary) Time Capsule has been cleared for its voyage through time and space! It’s been 50 years since Stockton Jr. College separated from the Stockton Unified School District in 1963. San Joaquin Delta College was born!

In celebration of Delta's 50th, the college recently completed filling a new “100th Anniversary” time capsule which will be opened in 2063. The contents include: videos, Delta magazines, campus information, photos and numerous items reflecting Delta's vibrant role in the community. The capsule has been sealed. As for specifics of the contents, well...you'll need to wait 50 years!

The Time Capsule Committee consisted of retired Delta Social Science instructors Chuck Bloch, Del McComb, former manager Toni Guantone, and Superintendent/President, Dr. Kathy Hart. Bloch and McComb are noted Delta College historians and debated many items for inclusion.

"There were hundreds of worthy items considered for the capsule," said McComb. "You hate to leave anything out." Chuck Block agreed. "There is only so much room in the capsule. When push came to shove, I think the committee made excellent choices." McComb warned with a grin, “A curse on anyone who opens this capsule before 2063!”

“50 years is almost two generations,” mused Dr. Hart. "The person who opens this time capsule probably hasn't been born yet."

The beautiful black and gold capsule, created by Alex Taddei and Delta’s welding department, will be displayed in a niche in the foyer of Goleman Library along with our 50th Anniversary capsule. Both capsules were exhibited at Dr. Hart’s Holiday Reception in the Horton Gallery, Dec. 5. The reception also highlighted walking tours of our striking new Science and Mathematics building. The new building will officially open for the Spring Semester, January 21.

Think you can make it to 2063? See you there...
count on it!
