Delta Center for the Arts L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery presents the 7th Annual Visions In Clay
Exhibition and Awards Competition, August 16 – September 13, 2012. The opening reception is planned forThursday, August from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

Visions In Clay is the largest exhibition of ceramic works in the San Joaquin Valley. It is an exceptional show of craftsmanship and diversity of style through individual use of materials. In addition, the editor of Ceramics Monthly selected Visions In Clay as one of the top five ceramic exhibitions in the country.

This year’s exhibit features 45 artists’ work from around the country, including six from Stockton:
Joel Blum, Bruce Cadman, Ilena Finocchi, Jessica Fong, Mitchel Smith, and Kathy White. We are proud to report that three of the local artists are current or former Delta College students who studied ceramics under Professor Joe Mariscal.

The Visions In Clay exhibition is the first of three shows for the Gallery’s Fall Season. The Fall exhibitions are discipline-based shows that focus on the primary arts curriculum of Delta College's Fine Art Division: 1) ceramics, 2) 2D–3D (painting, printmaking and sculpture), and 3) photography. This exhibition format brings in a large group of artists to present their work, providing greater exposure to diverse styles and media to Gallery audiences, thereby extending the educational and creative experience for our students. The Gallery’s primary mission is to support student-learning outcomes in the visual arts curriculum by building knowledge in the aesthetic, technical, cultural and historical context of the visual arts.

An independent juror, Joe Bova, Fine Arts Director and Professor Emeritus, Ohio University, selected the ceramic works. The exhibition includes functional, decorative and sculptural works, and is dedicated to unique form, glazing and texture qualities.

The competition awards go to: Christine Golden, Tuscon, Arizona, $1,000 - Best of Show; Charlene Doiron Reinhart, Hayward, California, $600 - 2nd Place; and Tony Martin, Pocatello, Idaho, $350 - 3rd Place.
