Anonymous Text Messaging Tip Service Launched by Delta College Police
to Promote Greater Safety
(Stockton)
The
San Joaquin Delta College District Police Department has announced that
students, faculty and staff can now use their mobile phones to provide
anonymous tips to District Police. The service, called TipSoft, allows students to send anonymous tips online, via smartphone, or by sending a text message to “CRIMES” (274637) with the keyword DELTA from any mobile phone.
“In
a school setting, it’s often imperative that information be conveyed to
authorities quickly,” said Officer Jim Bock. “We are dedicated to
maintaining Delta College as one of the safest public locations in the
county, and with TipSoft, students, faculty and staff will know that
it’s safe for them to do the right thing without ever disclosing their
identity.”
TipSoft allows District Police and students to have a
two-way dialog that is completely secure and anonymous. Students should
use TipSoft to report any safety-related information, including
bullying, suicide prevention, suspicious activity, drug use or
information about crimes that are being planned in the community or
schools. Additionally, District Police will be able to send brief crime
prevention tips to those who sign up for the service.
“The San
Joaquin Delta College Police Department is demonstrating its concern and
sensitivity to its students and community by adopting this technology,”
said Greg Whisenant, founder and CEO of CrimeReports. “With TipSoft,
students can take an active role in making their schools and communities
safer.”
Currently used by over 800 schools and law enforcement agencies throughout the country, TipSoft, which is provided by CrimeReports,
allows text message providers to remain anonymous by encrypting the
text messages, assigning them a unique ID, and routing them through
secure servers, protecting the personal details of the information
provider.
