Delta College Partners with University of Pacific to Combat Sexual Violence
(Stockton)
San Joaquin Delta College has partnered with the University of the Pacific on a collaborative grant application to the U.S. Dept. of Justice Office on Violence against Women (OVW). The OVW grant will address violence against women on both campuses.
The Delta-Pacific collaborative project seeks funding to increase prevention education and training. In addition, the project plans to coordinate campus and community anti-violence efforts. The project plans to engage community experts such as The Women's Center-Youth and Family Services (formerly known as the Women's Center of San Joaquin County) and the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office.
"We are really excited to be partnering with Delta College and our community partners on this issue," says Corrie Martin, Director of the Pacific Women's Resource Center. "Preventing violence against women on our campuses takes a comprehensive strategy and coordinated efforts. We are hopeful that the OVW will fund our application!"
David Main, Director of Police Services at Delta College agrees. “During difficult economic times, it is important for agencies to partner and seek alternative funding sources to better serve our campus communities.”
A decision on the Delta-Pacific OVW grant application is expected sometime in the next month.
