Delta Center for the Arts LH Horton Jr. Gallery presents the third annual Photography Exhibition and Awards Competition: Street Photography, November 15 – December 14.
Each year the Photography Exhibition presents photographic works in both analogue and digital formats with a specific focus or theme. This national exhibition features 17 photographers and 33 images exploring street scenes in a variety of styles and social-cultural context.
The Exhibition Awards go to:
Best of Show: Leo Mendonca - Double Take
2nd Place: Richard Ott - Woman with Umbrella Eyes
3rd Place: Eddie Wexler - New York City
Exhibiting artists also include: Marti Belcher, Yiyun Chen, Glen Gross, David Jones, Chae Kihn, Bill Klipp, Alex Lin, John Martino, Leighton McWilliams, Andrew H. Miller, Leigh Moose, Dale O’Dell, Michael Randolph (a Stockton resident and former SJDC student) and Sterne Slaven.
The exhibition juror is Deborah Klochko, Executive Director of the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego. Klochko has over twenty-five years experience in photography museums as an educator, director, and curator. She is the co-author of, Moment of Seeing: Minor White at the California School of Fine Arts, and, Create and Be Recognized: Photography on the Edge. She is the author and curator of, Picturing Eden, Nancy Newhall: A Literacy of Images and Streetwise: Masters of 60s Photography. Her most recent curatorial effort is, Face to Face: Works from the Bank of America Collection.
Ms. Klochko states, “Many people are drawn to street photography, but the challenge is to capture what is in front of the camera in a new and different way. As the judge for this year’s competition, I had the privilege of seeing the work of many photographers. From straightforward documentary, to digitally manipulated images, the creative energy of the medium enthralls, astounds, and surprises us.”
“What you will find in this selection of photographs is work that will make you laugh, some that will bring you to tears, but most importantly are the images that challenge how you think about the medium. Good photography is about taking chances and the award winners in this group are exploring new possibilities. This competition and resulting exhibition is a celebration of the diversity of street photography.”
Digital images are available upon
