Delta College Students Start Food Pantry
Student
run Food Pantry seeks support from community
(Stockton)
The Associated Student Body Government has started a Food Pantry to serve Delta College students in need. The vision of the program is to, “Ensure no student goes hungry because of a lack of income or access to food.” In preparation for its grand opening in January 2013, the ASBG is currently hosting a food and turkey drive for Thanksgiving, with the goal of distributing 75 turkeys to students in need.
Food donations can be dropped off at the ASBG office located in Shima 101F. Monetary donations can be sent to: Office of Student Activities, 5151 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95207. Checks can be made payable to: San Joaquin Delta College ASBG Food Pantry.
Pledges for the turkey drive are currently being taken through an online pledge form available on the ASBG website - http://deltacollege.edu/org/asbg/asbgfoodpantry.htm. Donors can also visit the ASBG office in Shima 101F or the Student Activities office in Shima 101C to sign-up to pledge a turkey. Turkey drive pledges will be accepted through Nov. 16.
The idea to start a food pantry was originally proposed by former Senator of College and Community Relations, Mark Smith, last fall semester. Since then, ASBG VP of Student Affairs, Elizabeth Landa, has been working hard to plan the details of the program, identify local partners, and set up the Student Activities Office donation location (Shima 101C).
The ASBG Food Pantry contributes to the overall health and wellness of the Delta College student body by providing free access to healthy food options students can use to create balanced meals for themselves and their families.
Questions regarding the Food Pantry can be directed to VP of Student Affairs, Elizabeth Landa at:
