Delta College Awarded $1.1 Million Cal-PASS Grant

Delta College's Board of Trustees voted unanimously at to accept the California Partnership for Achieving Student Success (Cal-PASS) grant for 2012-13 at their July 17 meeting. The California Community Colleges Board of Governors voted to award Delta College the contract at its July 9 meeting. The Cal-PASS grant amount of $1.139 million per fiscal year is renewable for up to five years.
The Cal-PASS grant allows Delta College to partner with the non-profit Educational Results Partnership (ERP) to host, manage and expand the Cal-PASS student data system, soon to be known as Cal-PASS Plus. Cal-PASS Plus will use statewide student achievement data to help guide regional and statewide decision-making, close the achievement gap, and increase college and workforce readiness.
Dr. Kathleen Hart, Acting Superintendent/ President of San Joaquin Delta College, emphasizes, “We’d like to congratulate the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District for their outstanding work administering the Cal-PASS program since its inception 10 years ago. We look forward to working with them during the transition.”
Cal-PASS collects, analyzes and shares student data in order to track performance and improve student success from elementary school through university. Over 8,400 K-12, community colleges, colleges and universities throughout California participate in this partnership. By bringing these academic databases together to examine transition and success, Cal-PASS Plus will bring a fresh approach to tracking and improving education outcomes.
The latest computer and data collection technologies are key to the success of Cal-PASS Plus. “Robust and accessible information about what is happening academically in our public schools - from start to finish - will allow educators and education stakeholders to make informed decisions about effective education policy and programs,” said Dr. Hart. "With the vital role information technology plays in improving student success, Delta College’s state-of-the-art secured computer facility makes us uniquely poised to administer Cal-PASS Plus.
Delta College will also work with the San Joaquin County Office of Education to conduct outreach about Cal-PASS Plus. The objective: Inform local county education offices how Cal-PASS Plus student achievement databases will improve the performance of academic institutions throughout the state.
According to ERP founder and president, Dr. James Lanich, Cal-PASS Plus will strive to make sure students are better prepared to succeed in the next phase of their education. “Actionable data from K-16, including information about what works in our schools, allows us to replicate and expand the best practices. Cal-PASS Plus will map student achievement over the long term, identifying ‘where, when and how’ we need to improve to ensure college and career success.”
Greg Jones, ERP chairman and former member of the California State Board of Education, looks forward to the new Cal-PASS Plus affiliation. “Educational Results Partnership is proud to be a part of this vital effort with San Joaquin Delta College.
