Noted scholar Adisa Ajamu visits Delta College - April 19
"Saltwater Fish in Freshwater World"

San Joaquin Delta College's Cultural
Awareness Program (CAP) and the African American Employee Council (AAEC) are
pleased to present a lecture by
Adisa Ajamu (pronounced Ah-dee-Sah
Aj-jah-Moo) entitled
"Saltwater Fish in Freshwater World: Contours, Complexities and
Celebrations in African American Life and Culture" on
Thursday, April 19, at 4:30 p.m. in Upper Danner Hall at
San Joaquin Delta College. This event is
FREE and open to the public.
A
prominent educator and scholar, Adisa Ajamu brings his unique
perspective to this presentation. Mr. Ajamu currently serves as the
Executive Director of the Atunwa Collective Community Development Think
Tank
located in Los Angeles, and served as the founding program manager for
the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency (SAMHSA) where he
designed, developed and implemented the Minority Fellowship Program for
the
American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT/MFP). He has
been a Scholar in Residence in the Department of Black Studies at San Francisco
State University, is a Visiting Scholar at Virginia Commonwealth
University, and former educational consultant for the State of California and
the Center for Applied Cultural Studies and Educational Achievement at San
Francisco State University. He is an active member of the Association of Black
Psychologists and the Association for the Study of Classical African
Civilizations (ASCAC).
Co-author of The Psychology of Blacks: An African Centered Perspective and
the recently published fourth edition of The Psychology of Blacks: Centering
Our Perspectives in the African Consciousness (2010), Adisa is a contributing
author to the ASCAC World History Project and Black Psychology (edited by
Reginald Jones), and has published numerous scholarly essays, articles, book
reviews and book chapters on African and African American life and culture.
Currently, he is completing two books: An Intellectual History of Black
Psychology and a collection of essays on African American life and culture.
