                  Delta College Selects Final Candidates for Superintendent/President
                                  
Candidates Presented to the Public at Feb. 15th Forum
(Stockton)
After an extensive six month national search that included input from staff, campus organizations and community stakeholders, San Joaquin Delta College has narrowed its search down to three candidates for its next Superintendent/President:
Dr. Jeff Marsee, Superintendent/President of the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California;
Dr. Kimberly Perry, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles City College;
Dr. Kevin G. Walthers, Vice Chancellor for Administration for the West Virginia Community and Technical College System and West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

Dr. Jeff Marsee was hired as the Superintendent/President of the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA, in 2008. Dr. Marsee’s career includes service as Vice President of Administrative Services at El Camino College in Torrance, CA, along with 21 years of experience as a Vice President and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Fiscal/Business Services at community colleges in Texas, New York and California (1974-2005). Jeff Marsee has taught as an adjunct and full time faculty member at the community college and university level.
Dr. Marsee earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Southern California, where he also achieved NCAA All-American status in cross country. Dr. Marsee earned a Master’s in Economics from Cal State Long Beach and Doctorate in the Community College Leadership Program from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Marsee also received a Fulbright seminar grant to Russia in April, 2010.

Dr. Kimberly Perry is currently the Vice President, Academic Affairs at Los Angeles City College. Dr. Perry’s career as an educator started in 1980 as a high school agricultural and natural resources instructor in Fremont, CA. Dr. Perry served at Reedley College as Associate Dean of Instruction, eventually becoming Vice President of Instruction in 2003. In addition to being a respected lecturer on agricultural and natural resources, Dr. Perry served for eight years as the Executive Director of the National Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization.
Dr. Kim Perry received her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from the University of California, Master of Education from the University of California at Davis, and Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Leadership with a community college emphasis from the University of the Pacific.

Dr. Kevin G. Walthers is the Vice Chancellor for Administration for the West Virginia Community and Technical College System and West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission since 2009. Dr. Walthers also oversees the West Virginia Network of Educational Telecomputing (WVNET). WVNET is the West Virginia’s educational technology provider for K-12 schools and colleges.
In 1991, Dr. Walthers started his career as a high school instructor in Dallas, Texas. Career highlights include: Assistant Commissioner to the Utah Commissioner of Higher Education and Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services at the College of Eastern Utah.
Dr. Walthers holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s of Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah.

On Tuesday, Feb. 15, each Superintendent/President candidate toured Delta's campus, then later that day, participated in a series of public forums at Delta's Tillie Lewis Theater. Each candidate was given a one hour forum. Each was allowed 10 minutes to introduce themselves to staff, students and the public, with the remainder of the hour reserved for submitted audience questions. Among the questions covered: budget/staffing concerns, programs & services, campus/college problems, management style and inquiries on how each would move San Joaquin Delta College forward. Delta College Board President, Teresa Brown, acted as moderator.          

Dr. Susan A. Cota has been serving as Delta’s Interim Superintendent/President since Aug. 2010. Delta’s Board hopes to announce a new Superintendent/President by the end of February.
