San Joaquin Delta College trustee, Steve Castellanos, a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA), has been elected to the Community College League of California’s California Community College Trustees (CCCT ) Board of Directors. CCCT Board members are elected for three-year terms by trustees of the California Community Colleges system.

The Community College League of California is a nonprofit public benefit corporation whose voluntary membership consists of the 72 local community college districts in California. Within the League are two major organizations which share common advocacy goals: The California Community College Trustees (CCCT), and the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC).

The CCCT is a 21 member board which meets approximately six times a year. At these meetings, action is taken on education policy issues before the Community Colleges Board of Governors and state legislature. The CCCT provides policy direction to staff concerning statewide educational policy, research initiatives, publications, workshops, and conferences.

Steve Castellanos has served as a Delta College trustee since 2008. “My life has been one of community service and involvement, none of which would have been possible without public education.”  Mr. Castellanos feels education in California is at a critical juncture. “California’s Community Colleges are under assault. Never has it been more important for the community to partner with education to assure a positive future. Current times call for smart advocacy, including creative and innovative solutions.”

Castellanos, a past president of the American Institute of Architects California Council, and California State Architect (2000-2005), feels he brings a unique perspective to his role on the CCCT Board. “As an architect, I know there is a strong connection between facilities and education. The fundamental partnership between community, business and industry must be strengthened. I will work to develop the talents and skills of our next generation. Without a continuing commitment, future educational opportunities are at risk.”

Mr. Castellanos will attend his first CCCT Board meeting in Sacramento, June 17-18.
