“Iron Chef” Poultry & Eggs Showdown Supports Delta Culinary Arts
Help support Delta College Culinary Arts at the semi-annual Poultry and Eggs Culinary Showdown. This “Iron Chef” style competition will be held at Danner Hall on Tuesday, May 10th, from
4:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in Danner Hall.
Delta College culinary arts instructor and event coordinator Kevin Cabrera says, “Three student chef teams will have two hours to prepare five courses: appetizers; soup; salad; main entrée and dessert. Each course must include an element of the theme ‘Poultry and Eggs’ in the dish. It’s always fun to see how creative the teams are.” Cabrera explains, “Last year, we held the competition without an audience. This year, we decided to include an audience and make the event a fundraiser for Delta’s Culinary Arts Program.”
Team Raw, Team US and Asian Sensation will start the food prep for the “Showdown” the day before. On May 10th, the competition will start promptly at 4:30 p.m. This year, a panel of eight local culinary industry professionals will determine the winner. Those judges include Delta’s own chef/instructors Mark Berkner, Tracy Berkner, and John Britto. The final judging will start around 7 p.m.
“It's a fun and exciting way to see the cooking shows you love, live in action. As the time ticks down, the pressure mounts!” says Chef Cabrera. “Guests will taste the dishes the teams create for the judges. In addition, a delicious hors d’oeuvre table will be available.”
Donations for the event are $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased at Danner Hall the day of the event, or by visiting the Fine Arts and Communication Office, located in Holt 242,
(209) 954-5211.
Cabrera emphasizes, “Don’t miss the ‘Poultry and Eggs Showdown’! Thank you in advance for supporting culinary education!”
