Delta College Presents the Jeff Hamilton Trio, March 5th
Delta College’s Center for the Arts presents the jazz piano group, the Jeff Hamilton Trio,
Sat., March 5th, 8 p.m. at the Tillie Lewis Theatre. The trio is comprised of:
Jeff Hamilton, drums; Tamir Hendelman, piano; and Christoph Luty, bass.
The Jeff Hamilton Trio has been playing together since 2000 and delivers a performance full of the virtues that listeners have come to expect: swing, taste, drive, subtly, and a deep understanding of the jazz tradition. Their latest album, “Symbiosis” (Capri Records) is in keeping with the Trio’s tradition of fresh and exciting tracks, with surprising touches that keep everything lively without obscuring the beauty of the original material. In other words…great jazz!
After more than 35 years in jazz, Jeff Hamilton displays exquisite musical judgment, knowing when to lay back to let the soloist shine, and when to goad a soloist on with accents and close interplay. Hamilton understands the eloquence of restraint, he never over plays. Jeff Hamilton has a knack for the appropriate fill or conversational accents, the telling gesture that supports and inspires soloists.
Each member of the band is an arranger and composer in their own right, as well as master improviser. Whether the trio is playing a ballad, funky blues, an up-tempo bebop cooker, or a smooth boss nova, each makes their presence felt without ever stealing the limelight. After developing g such a close rapport, “Symbiosis” seems exactly the right title the trio’s new album.
