Delta Mustangs Fall Youth Basketball Camp, Oct. 22-23, 29-30
Delta College will hold its Fall Youth Basketball Camp for high school girls, ages 14-18, and youth boys and girls, ages 5 – 13, Oct. 22-23, and 29-30, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., at the Blanchard and Marcopulos Gyms on the beautiful campus of San Joaquin Delta College.
It promises to be a fun, motivational camp, as young players learn the essentials of the game from Lady Mustangs basketball coach Gina Johnson and her staff. Delta’s summer camp provides the perfect opportunity for young players to enhance their skills and strengthen fundamentals as they prepare for the upcoming basketball season. Campers will be divided by age and skill level in a great learning environment. Lower hoops will be available for 5-6 year olds. Coach Johnson looks forward to sharing her passion for the game with the youth of our community.
Coach Gina Johnson, begins her 16th season with the Lady Mustangs basketball program, and 18th as a community college head coach, compiling an impressive 419-149 record. Since Coach Johnson took over in 1996, the Lady Mustangs have become one of the top community college programs in the state. The Mustangs have advanced to post season competition in 13 of Coach Johnson’s 14 seasons. She led the Mustangs to their 1997 Bay Valley Conference title, the first ever at Delta College!
Coach Johnson believes in an “up-tempo” style offense, and tough full court defensive play. “Your son or daughter will have the opportunity to lean and improve basic basketball fundamentals,” says Coach Johnson. “Our staff will include both Delta College coaches and team players. Our focus is to develop each participant’s individual skills, and have some fun, too!”
Camp assistant coach, Amy Castillo, has coached at Merced College (her alma mater) and Las Positas College. She was also an assistant coach for Boys Varsity Basketball at Patterson High and coached Varsity Volleyball at Central High in Ceres. Coach Castillo was an Academic All-American at Merced and Menlo College, showing her strength as both a student and athlete. Coach Castillo starts her second season with the Lady Mustang program, and is excited to coordinate and coach Delta’s Fall Basketball Camp.
The cost for this year’s Fall Basketball Camp is $85 per camper, which includes a Delta College Basketball T-Shirt and a basketball. Bring a friend or sibling and the camp fee is only $60 per camper! Delta College employees will be offered a discount of $65 per camper, or $55 per camper with an additional family member.
