Film Series Ushers in Earth Day Celebrations at Delta College
Learn how you can become an active member in preserving our environment! Delta College presents Earth Day 2011 on Thursday, April 21st, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. This year’s celebration takes place in Delta’s Central Quad and Danner Hall.
New to this year’s festivities is the Earth Day Film Series, April 12, 13 & 19, at 11 a.m. in Delta’s Tillie Lewis Theater. “We are gearing up for Earth Day with a series of films,” says Delta College Spanish Professor and Earth Day organizing committee member, Elizabeth Schwartz. “Each film will be hosted by a Delta College faculty member and presents a controversial topic that we hope sparks interest and thoughtful discussion among students, staff and the public. The film series is free to the public.”
Earth Day Film Series Schedule - Tillie Lewis Theater, 11 a.m.
Food Inc. Tue. April 12
Who Killed the Electric Car Wed. April 13

On April 21st, learn the latest methods to “go green.” This year’s celebration will include exhibits, free giveaways and information booths from 25 local businesses and organizations, including: Commute Connection, Department of Transportation, PG&E, Stockton Harvest, Defenders of Wildlife, Restore the Delta, Master Gardeners and more!
Delta’s Earth Day 2011 will feature music, guest speakers and a “poetry slam” presentation with a “green” theme. In addition, don’t miss the Fashion Department’s Recycled Fashion Show in Danner Hall, a hybrid car display, and tree planting demonstration. Hungry? Purchase a slice of organic pizza prepared by Delta’s own Student Chef. Attendees can enter an iPod raffle for checking out the tables and information.
Students and guests are encouraged to voice or submit written ideas for developing green practices at the Delta College Green Team’s Innovation and Sustainability Committee Booth. These suggestions are intended to help guide students and staff toward sustainable green practices on Delta’s campus.
“We are in the process of raising awareness,” adds Elizabeth Schwartz. “The Earth Day event can help us gather ideas for developing green practices on campus and in our communities.” Some actions, according to Schwartz, have already been adopted by the Delta College community. “Delta College has signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. This initiative is a formal pledge to develop more sustainable practices.”
