Delta College Trustees take Oath of Office
With family members present, San Joaquin Delta College Trustees Janet A. Rivera, Taj M. Khan and Lisa Turner were sworn in at the Tuesday, Dec.7th board meeting. The oath was administered by
San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge, Jose Alva.
New to Delta’s board is Lisa Turner, representing Area 7, Manteca-Escalon. A Lathrop resident,
Lisa Turner replaced long-time trustee Ted Simas, who served 16 years before retiring this year.
Ms. Turner, 50, is a local businesswoman who owns and runs a drug and alcohol recovery center, Alternative Solution, with her husband of 28 years, Steven. The Turners have three adult male children and four grandchildren.
Lisa Turner decided to run for Delta College’s board because she is concerned about the community. Ms. Turner says she will work toward “more collaboration with universities for students seeking four-year degrees, improving services for adult re-entry students, and more accountability in college spending.”
Renewing their four-year oath of office were North Stockton representative Janet A. Rivera, a career educator, who first became a trustee in 1994, and Lodi representative Taj M. Khan, a retired engineer and activist who was appointed to the seat vacated by Maria Elena Serna in Feb. of 2009.
The San Joaquin Delta Community College District is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven voting members, elected from trustee areas in general elections throughout the district. The board also consists of a student representative appointed by student government.
Delta's newest trustee, Lisa Turner, representing Area 7 in Manteca-Escalon, shakes hands with
Judge Jose Alva after her swearing-in ceremony.
Representing Area 4 in Lodi, Taj M. Khan renews his oath of office.
Janet Rivera, representing Area 3 in North Stockton, will start her 5th term as a San Joaquin Delta College Trustee.
